Do you ever see a dress (or scarf, or pair of shoes) and think that it’s pretty much perfect?

Well, that’s what I thought when I saw this dress. I love the colour, I love the shape, I love the architectural zig-zag seams, I love the little sleeves, I love the weight of the fabric.

It’s so perfect on its own, that you wouldn’t need to pair it with much else. I’d add a chunky vintage bracelet, a woven bag, and a pair of heels and call it a day.

It’s the Diane von Furstenberg Trapp Dress. Too bad it’s £162.50 (on sale, even).

When I saw this DVF dress on Shopbop, I just had to build an outfit around it. It’s a perfect work dress — classic lines, sleek, conservative in length, but daring in color. It will also easily transition from summer to fall (picture it with a brown tweed blazer and boots).

I’m loving these accessories too. And you won’t believe how much this watch costs!

LOVE this handmade dress from the ohreallybecky etsy shop. The pairing of navy blue and grey is so of-the-moment, and it’s a beautiful piece to wear to work. I also love the Elizabethan-esque collar. It comes in small, medium, and large and is priced at £105. I want this dress so badly! Check out Becky’s other pieces too — she’s a real talent.

Okay, this Theory dress is pricey — £115. But when I saw it, I fell in love with it (as much as you can love a mere dress). It reminds me of smart fifties-style dresses, but with a modern twist: the asymmetrical pleating at the waistline.

Here’s hoping it goes on sale with a variety of sizes left!

So this post basically prompted me to spend money this weekend. On Saturday morning, I was thinking of what the Monday inspiration would be — and browsing through The Sartorialist, I found lovely photographs of women in shirt dresses. Shirtdresses are so autumnlike, I thought the style would be great inspiration. Then I went clothes shopping for the first time in ages and came across a shirtdress at Anthropologie, on sale! So I obviously had to purchase it.

So now I have a great new dress to wear to work. I’ll replace a magenta sash with something more conservative, probably with either an extra thick or extra skinny black leather belt. The dress is gorgeous — it’s silky, with a full skirt with mini pleats.

    So, without further ado.
